Brand values

Friendly Soap crafts high-quality, eco-friendly soaps with a strong commitment to sustainability and ethics. Established in 2008, they use the traditional cold process method to ensure minimal energy use and zero waste. Their soaps are free from harmful chemicals like SLS, parabens, and triclosan, and are made without palm oil or plastic.

Friendly Soap is certified by the Vegan Society, Cruelty-Free International, and holds the Fair Tax Mark. Their packaging is fully recycled and recyclable, and they donate 10p from every sale to support clean water and reforestation projects.

Eco Impact

520 million empty shampoo bottles are thrown away every year in the UK - enough to fill 207,000 Olympic sized swimming pools. And that staggering number doesn’t even include conditioner, body wash, or other bathing products - just shampoo bottles alone.

These bottles are often recyclable, but with 95% of cosmetic packaging being sent to landfill it's clear that even if bottles can be recycled, they aren't being. Whether that's because the recycling has been contaminated, it's been put in the wrong bin or has just been thrown away to begin with.

(Note, recycling plastic isn't perfect anyway - plastic degrades as it is processed so a plastic shampoo bottle won't ever become another plastic shampoo bottle again!) And because plastic isn't compatible with our ecosystems, these bottles can't biodegrade; they break down into microplastics that end up in our waterways, polluting our oceans and harming wildlife.

There’s a better way. By switching to an aluminium bottle or a shampoo bar, you’re stopping plastic from entering our environment at the source - without demand, there will be no plastic. Thanks for joining us in making a very real difference to our oceans.

Why I love this

The bar lathers up extremely well, so a little goes a long way, making it last a long time. It leaves my hair feeling clean without any greasy or waxy residue. I also love that it's made with natural ingredients and comes in plastic-free packaging, and the lavender and tea tree scent is relaxing and uplifting.

How to use

To use your shampoo bar, start by thoroughly wetting your hair with warm water. Then, either rub the bar between your hands to create a lather or glide it directly over your scalp in gentle, circular motions.

Once you’ve built up a good lather, massage it into your scalp and roots just as you would with liquid shampoo. Rinse well, making sure to wash away all the suds.

After use, let your shampoo bar dry completely between washes - ideally on a soap dish that drains well - to help it last longer.

If you're new to shampoo bars, your hair might need a few washes to adjust, but once it does, you'll never look back.
